The 9th Lasaire biennial

EUROPE WORK EMPLOYMENT

The aim of the last session of the Lasaire Europe Work and Employment cycle of biennial meetings was to remobilise the European social networks (employers, trade unions and ordinary citizens) on the role of the European Union to readjust the course of globalisation.

In this context, a seminar entitled ‘Europe and globalisation -  which way for economic development and employment?’ took place in Saint Etienne on 20 October 2006. It gathered together the social partners such as the directors of companies, trade union officials and European experts.

This seminar is a preliminary to the Lyons Forum For a responsible globalisation organised by Gérard Collomb, Lyon Mayor and Jean Jack Queyranne, Region President, which has been hold from 25 to 28 October (www.forum-lyon.com). Kept low-key, the aim is to prepare the next Europe, Work and Employment biennial in Lyons on 8 and 9 February 2007.

Globalisation against the European social model?
Is it inevitable? How can globalisation be managed? What role can an enlarged Europe play? How can Europe organise itself to become a major player in providing social and environmental regulation of globalisation? The Euro, enlargement, the constitution, social players, territories… How can we achieve understanding?
How can we act?
